MAGGIE SIFF EPISODE 37

Sons Of Anarchy” took a brief break from its usual brand of high-intensity violence and got a little romantic in this week’s episode when Tara (Maggie Siff) and Jax (Charlie Hunnam) got married in a brothel. The union was a significant milestone for the biker drama, and for Siff’s character Tara Knowles in particular, who spent much of last season dreaming of a new life for herself outside the motorcycle club’s criminal orbit.

During the scene where Jax proposed, he told Tara that “nothing says endless love like capital murder,” and you seemed to play it like that line turned her on. Is Tara learning to thrive on the danger of the “Sons” world?
You know, one of the very first thoughts I had about the character was the fact that she’s this surgeon, and she kind of deals with life and death and blood and guts all the time. And I think there has to be some place, on some level, on which it does excite her. That’s never a conscious thing, but it’s something I poured into my little feeding ground for the unconscious motivations fo the character. How could she possibly stick around otherwise? He’s actually making reference to the very first time they came together, which was over a dead body. So there’s something in that. The thing that I think the show gets at is this adrenalized, hyper-violent world that they all live in. I think on some level, that kind of danger and excitement must fuel all of them.

Maggie siff TVline interview

Sons of Anarchy fans on Tuesday night were not-so-cordially invited to the impromptu wedding of Mr. Jackson “Jax” Teller and Ms. Tara Knowles — a ceremony that, while unconventional even by SAMCRO standards, amazingly went off without a hitch.

TVLINE | What was your reaction when you found out Jax and Tara would finally tie the knot? My reaction was a little bit like the character’s reaction: ‘Really?! Here? Now? This way?’ [Laughs] It certainly wasn’t a Luke-and-Laura, come to Jesus wedding moment. But I also thought it was strangely appropriate and kind of funny. What ended up making the scene so enjoyable was that a wedding is a wedding is a wedding, and no matter where it happens, it’s kind of momentous. It actually felt that way when we were shooting it, which made it fun.

‘Sons of Anarchy’: 5 Things to Expect in Season 5

2. Jax Is at the Head of the Table

One of the biggest changes in season five is that Clay, now feeble and recovering, will not be at the head of the SAMCRO table. Instead, Jax will take over.

“I think he’s an excellent leader,” Hunnam told THR. “He really has had to watch Clay make so many mistakes over the years, and he’s really learned from those mistakes.”

However, leading a club that is threatened by the terrifying Damon Pope (Harold Perrineau) and is struggling to complete its drug runs is definitely taxing on the new leader.

“I think one of the things he hadn’t anticipated was just how difficult it is to not make those mistakes,” Hunnam said. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and I think Jax is starting to appreciate that now.”

3. Tara’s Moving Past Her Troubles

Tara has had to leave her doctor duties behind because of her broken hand, which could have sent her back into a very dark place. However, Siff said her character is trying to move forward and focus on her new duties as first lady of the club.

“Instead of falling into herself, and depression, she’s trying to be a leader,” she told THR.

“She’s sort of trying to numb out in certain ways about what’s going on with her hand,” she added. “You see her smoking some more pot, you see her trying to take the edge off the things that would have otherwise, in former days, made her weepy.”

As for her relationship with Jax, Siff called it the “ultimate bad-boy love story.” That story will continue to be written this season as Jax deals with running the club.

“I think they’re kind of fated, they’re meant to be together,” Siff told THR. “I think that they both feel that in some way that doesn’t always make a lot of sense but kind of demands that she keep showing up.”
